We had our third prenatal appointment today. Brian went with me because it was a big appointment – we were going to hear baby’s heartbeat (hopefully). It would be a nice Christmas present from the baby. I went in with all my questions. Brian had the digital tape recorder to record the heartbeat. Then somehow, the appointment was done.

My doctor’s appointments have been really quick. Brian says I asked most of my questions, but I feel like I got distracted. The midwife was very quick about finding the heartbeat and then we were done.

I thought it would be a lot more emotional than it was. You always see on TV that it’s a big bonding moment, but it really wasn’t for me. It sounded like when Siona really gets purring. But in the next week, baby became a whole lot more real and we started thinking about all the future with baby in it. Things like paying for day care, me going back to work, getting the house ready for baby, how are we going to pay for everything, are we going to be good parents, etc.

We left Brian’s grandmother’s house in Spring Hill and headed home. When we hit I-4, we called Ricky and Teresa to see if they were home. We got over there and told them the good news. They were suspicious and weren’t entirely surprised with our good news.

We had been eager to share that the full fat cheese thing that Teresa told us about actually worked – she read in a magazine that people are more likely to conceive if they eat full fat cheese around the time you have sex. We hung out for a while and headed back home. The kitties were happy to see us!

Brian’s parents arrived in Florida today. We had been waiting to get everyone (Brian’s parents and grandmother and my brother) together before we told them we were pregnant. We were hoping that his parents would come down from New Hampshire for Thanksgiving, but we had to wait a little bit. We picked his parents up at the airport and went over to LeRoy Selmon’s Steak House for dinner.

Jason met up with us (he was late getting there though!) and finally everyone was together. We gave everyone an “early Christmas present” as the way to break the news. Brian’s family each got books called “For My Grandchild” and they were from specific for each person. One is from a grandmother’s point of view. Another is from a grandfather’s point of view. We added the word “Great” to Brian’s grandmother’s book. We also gave Jason a book about bugs as a gag gift because he had started working as an exterminator.

Everyone was pretty excited, although Brian’s family seemed to already have their suspicions that we were pregnant. Brian’s grandmother had been trying really hard to get the news out of me earlier in the day, but I was good and didn’t tell! Jason was really surprised and excited! After dinner, Jason went home and we headed up to Brian’s grandmother’s house in Spring Hill.
